Terms of service

These terms explain the rules for using Kalgoorlie.info. By using the website, creating an account, sending a message, submitting a Directory listing, claiming a business, or posting a Marketplace listing, you agree to these terms.

About Kalgoorlie.info

Kalgoorlie.info is an independent local information website for Kalgoorlie-Boulder and the Western Australian Goldfields. It provides travel information, local guides, Directory information, contact forms and a moderated local Marketplace.

The site is not affiliated with the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Tourism WA, mining companies, event organisers, accommodation providers, Directory businesses or Marketplace users unless clearly stated.

Use of the website

You must use the site lawfully, honestly and respectfully. You must not:

  • post or send false, misleading, deceptive, abusive, defamatory, discriminatory or unlawful material;
  • use the site for scams, phishing, spam, malware, scraping, credential harvesting or automated abuse;
  • interfere with the site, hosting, security controls, accounts, forms, Directory review or Marketplace moderation;
  • upload files that contain malware, hidden payloads or content you do not have the right to use;
  • pretend to be someone else or misrepresent your connection with a business, organisation, listing, property, item or service;
  • try to bypass rate limits, two-factor authentication, password reset controls, account checks or admin decisions.

Information on the site

We try to keep information useful and accurate, but local details can change. Opening hours, prices, road conditions, accommodation availability, fuel prices, events, attractions, phone numbers, public services and business details should be checked with the relevant provider or official source before you rely on them.

Content on this site is general information only. It is not legal, financial, medical, safety, mining, prospecting, emergency, migration, transport or travel advice.

Accounts and security

The same account may be used for Marketplace features and Directory owner features. You are responsible for keeping your account, password and email inbox secure. Use a strong password made only for this site.

Kalgoorlie.info may use email verification, password reset checks, six-digit sign-in codes, two-factor authentication, rate limits and audit logs to protect accounts and reduce abuse. You must not share sign-in codes, password reset links or verification codes with another person.

We may suspend, restrict or close accounts that appear compromised, abusive, unlawful, fake, duplicated, used for spam, used for false Directory claims, or inconsistent with these terms.

Email, password and Google sign-in

You can use email and password where available. If you forget your password, use the password reset flow and set a new password from the link or code sent to your account email.

If you use Google sign-in, Google confirms your email address and sends us basic profile information. You still need to complete any required local profile steps and accept the relevant user agreement before posting Marketplace listings or using protected account features.

Account and security emails may be sent from a no-reply mailbox. Do not reply with passwords, identity documents, payment details or private codes.

Marketplace role

The Kalgoorlie.info Marketplace is a moderated local noticeboard. The website is not the seller, buyer, broker, auctioneer, payment provider, delivery provider, inspector, employer, landlord, tenant, agent or guarantor for user transactions.

Users deal directly with each other. Sellers and buyers are responsible for their own listings, messages, inspections, payments, pickup, delivery, taxes, permits, licences, product safety, ownership rights and compliance with applicable Australian law.

Marketplace user responsibilities

If you post or respond to a Marketplace listing, you must:

  • provide accurate listing information, including price, condition, availability and location;
  • have the right to sell, swap, give away, rent or offer the item or service;
  • not list stolen, unsafe, recalled, counterfeit, prohibited, illegal or restricted items;
  • not make misleading claims about goods, services, prices, business status, condition or urgency;
  • close or update listings when they are no longer current;
  • meet safely, inspect items before payment where practical, and be cautious with deposits, shipping requests and identity documents.

Marketplace agreement records

Marketplace users may be asked to accept a user agreement before posting. A record, and in some cases a PDF copy, may be saved with the account for accountability, support and moderation history.

Directory listings

The Directory is for local businesses, trades, services, community organisations and places that may be useful to Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Goldfields readers. Directory profiles are public once approved.

If you submit or edit a Directory listing, you confirm that the information is accurate, that you have permission to provide it, and that the public details are suitable to publish. This includes business name, category, description, address, phone number, email address, website, opening notes and images.

New Directory submissions and user edits may be held for review before they appear publicly. Kalgoorlie.info may correct formatting, categories, spelling, duplicates, obvious errors or layout issues.

Claiming a business

Some administrator-added Directory listings may show a claim option. A claim request does not give instant control of a listing. It sends a request for review.

If you claim a business, you must be the owner, manager, authorised representative, or another person with a real right to maintain that public business profile. You must not claim a competitor, former employer, unrelated business, public service, community group or listing you are not authorised to manage.

Kalgoorlie.info may approve, reject, delay, reverse or ask for more information about a claim. We may also remove owner access if a claim later appears false, disputed, abusive, inactive or harmful to readers.

Directory owner access

Approved Directory owners can submit edits to their own listings. Owner access is a site management permission, not proof of legal ownership, licence status, insurance, qualifications, trade registration, identity, business quality or endorsement by Kalgoorlie.info.

Directory owners are responsible for keeping their public business information accurate and lawful. If there is a dispute about a listing, Kalgoorlie.info may pause changes, hide public contact details, restore an earlier version or keep admin control while the issue is reviewed.

Consumer law and private sales

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, product safety duty, liability, remedy or right that cannot lawfully be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law or another applicable Australian law.

Australian Consumer Law may apply where a seller is acting in trade or commerce or as a business. Many consumer guarantees do not apply to one-off private sales between individuals where the seller is not running a business, but laws about title, safety, fraud, theft and misleading conduct may still matter.

Users are responsible for understanding whether their transaction is a private sale, a business sale, a rental, a service, employment, regulated work or another type of arrangement.

Moderation and admin controls

We may approve, reject, edit, hide, remove, expire, reassign or report listings, accounts, messages, claim requests, Directory profiles, uploaded images or other submitted content where we consider it necessary for safety, legality, spam control, privacy, technical operation, community trust or site quality.

Moderation does not mean that we have verified a listing, user, item, service, price, condition, ownership, business identity, claim, qualification, licence or legal compliance.

Admins may edit users and listings where needed for support, moderation, correction, security, abuse prevention or legal reasons. Important account and moderation actions may be logged.

Reports, messages and feedback

Marketplace messages, Directory claim notes, listing reports, user reports, feedback and correction requests must be truthful and relevant. Do not use these tools for harassment, threats, spam, commercial scraping, private disputes unrelated to the listing, or false reports.

We may review messages, reports and claim notes when needed for support, safety, moderation or legal reasons.

Prohibited or sensitive content

You must not use Kalgoorlie.info to publish or arrange anything illegal, unsafe, exploitative, deceptive or clearly unsuitable for a local public website. This includes content involving stolen goods, fake documents, scams, malware, hate material, sexual exploitation, unlawful weapons, unlawful drugs, recalled products, dangerous instructions, or services that require licences you do not hold.

Some lawful items or services may still be unsuitable for the site. We may remove them at our discretion.

Intellectual property

Unless otherwise stated, website design, text, structure and original content are owned by Kalgoorlie.info or used with permission. You may link to public pages and quote short excerpts with attribution. You must not copy large parts of the site, republish it as your own, or scrape it for a competing database without permission.

By submitting Marketplace listings, Directory listings, images, corrections, claim notes or other content, you give us permission to host, display, resize, moderate, edit and remove that content for the operation, safety and promotion of the site. You keep ownership of your own submitted content.

Third-party links and services

The site may link to third-party websites, maps, accommodation providers, fuel information, event pages, official services, Google, Addressfinder, email providers or other tools. Those services are controlled by their own operators and may have their own terms and privacy policies.

Availability

We may change, pause or discontinue parts of the site at any time. We do not promise uninterrupted access, permanent storage of listings, claims, messages, images, account records or user content, or that every feature will remain available.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the site owners, operators and contributors are not liable for loss, damage, claims, disputes, non-payment, non-delivery, defects, personal injury, business loss, data loss, reputational loss or other consequences arising from user listings, user conduct, Directory information, business claims, third-party services, changed local information, or your use of the site.

Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, our liability is limited to the extent permitted by law.

Indemnity

You agree to be responsible for claims, costs, losses or damage caused by your unlawful use of the site, your breach of these terms, your Marketplace listing, your Directory submission, your business claim, your uploaded content, or your dealings with other users.

Privacy

Our handling of personal information is explained in the Privacy policy.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms when the site changes, when new services are added, or when legal or operational requirements change. The current version is published on this page.
